The Western Regional Training Centre offers paid studentships to highly qualified individuals who are pursuing graduate programs in applied health services and policy research at universities in western Canada (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia).

Priority is given to applicants who are Canadian citizens or have permanent resident status, and who are conducting research in Canada.

Priority is also given to applicants who will be commencing their programs; however, applications are also accepted from students who have been registered for no more than 12 months in their Master’s program, or 24 months in their PhD program at the time of application.

Prospective students should follow these steps:
Read the Guidelines carefully, and contact the WRTC [wrtc-hsr.ubc.ca] for any further information required
Apply to the graduate program at the university/ies of their choice prior to the appropriate deadline (if not already done)
Apply to the WRTC, by completing the online application form prior to the application deadline
If applying as a full WRTC student (see Guidelines for definitions), e-mail the WRTC Program Manager [wrtc-hsr.ubc.ca] permission for the WRTC personnel at their home university to access their graduate program application dossier. This e-mail must be sent at the same time as the online application form is submitted.
If applying as an affiliate WRTC student (see Guidelines for definitions), submit one copy of transcripts from all post-secondary universities attended, along with two letters of reference (one from their thesis supervisor if currently enrolled in a graduate program), to:
